How do you fit window tint film?
What you will need for fitting the film
- knife and plastic scraper (included in most of our sets)
- spray bottle filled with distilled water and a drop of dishwashing soap (just enough to break the surface tension of the water!)
- a few small strips of adhesive tape (sticky tape)
- window cleaning accessories (to clean the windows before you get started)
Fitting instructions from the specialist
- Lay the film on the outside of the windows that you want to cover and cut it to the approximate shape and size (later, you will cut it more exactly). Be sure lay the film in the correct orientation: adhesive side, still covered by the protective film layer, to the outside
- Depending on the film, you may heat the film a little with a normal hairdryer and adjust it to vaults / curves of the window.
- Clean the windows from the inside and outside.
- Adjust a small strip of adhesive tape to either side of the film in
one corner. Slowly pull apart the two adhesive strips. The clear
protective film layer will lift from the window tint film. You
may want to check this out first with a little test piece.
While pulling the protective film from the tint film, immediately spray the self-adhesive film with the liquid. - Spray the windows.
- Adjust the pre-cut and sprayed-in film to the wet window. Spray the outside of the film so that the scraper won't scratch the surface of the film. Remove the water below the film as well as little bubbles that may have occured by wiping the suface of the film with the little plastic scraper.
- At the end, cut the film along the edges of the window. You may want to use the scraper as a ruler in order to cut 1-2 mm from the side.
- All done !!!!

fitting instructions as PDF How do you fit colour protection films and flags?
- The areas that you want to cover need to be free from dust and grease.
- The minimum temperature for the surface and the films is +10 degree Celsius.
- Cut the film as desired. Important: DO NOT cut directly on the surface that you want to cover in order not to damage it.
- Remove the protection layer from the film and spray the surface to be covered as well as both sides of the film with water (+ a little drop of dishwashing soap to break the surface tension of the water).
- Place the film on the surface that you want to cover.
- Remove the water below the film as well as little bubbles that may have occured by wiping the suface of the film with the little plastic scraper.
- If the film does not glue sufficiently, you may heat the film a little with a hair blower and squeeze the film again with your scraper.
- This film is very soft and will adjust the minor curves / arches. For strong curves arches, use several segments of the film.
- To remove the film at a later time, heat it up with a hair blower and carefully pull the film from the surface. Improper handling may cause damages.
- If rests of the adhesive glue remain on the paint, carefully remove them with a little spirit.
Why are metallized films harder to handle?
- Metallized Films (e.g. Sunstop Chrome Reflective Film Silver Performance) are thicker due to the metallized layer and the scratch-proof surface coating and are therefore a little more difficult to handle.
- Adjusting these films to arched windows by heating them up is more difficult than with dyed films. We therefore suggest to cut the film in several segments to adjust it to arched windows.
Am I allowed to tint the driver and passenger windows?
In most parts of Europe, it is illegal to tint these windows.
In Britain it is still legal to our knowledge - although there are discussions going on to change this. We don't recommend to tint the driver and passenger windows. If you still decide to tint them, you should use lighter films such as our Silver Chrome or Grey.
Will set XXX fit for my car?
Sorry, but for many cars, we don't know the size of the windows.
The content of each set is described in our Onlineshop.
- 76 x 150 cm (30" x 59")
is intended for the rear window and will pretty much fit for any car. You may also use it for very high side windows in big VANs. - 50 x 150 cm (20" x 59")
fits for up to 2 side windows for most cars (except for some 3-door models with very long side windows like Golf, Polo, ...) - 50 x 300 cm (20" x 118")
fits for up to 4 side windows (e.g. station wagons such as the Golf, Focus, BMW 3 series station wagon, ...). For very large station wagons (e.g., Passat, Mondeo, ...), we recommend to combine this with an extra 50 x 150 cm roll. - 76 x 300 cm (30" x 118")
will fit for very high side windows in big VANs or busses.
As we cannot assume any liability that a set will fit for a particular car, it is always wise to measure the size of your windows before ordering.
If in doubt, always choose a larger set - or order an additional small set. This way, you will have enough film, even if one window does not turn out perfect on your first tinting experience.
My windows are higher / longer than the largest set you offer. What do I do now?
If a window is longer or higher than the largest set we offer, you may fit two or more pieces of film together. If you fit the pieces carefully, you won't be able to notice afterwards. This is done very often with UV protection film on shop showroom windows, where you won't even notice the film.
Do you offer pre-cut sets of tint film for my car?
We not currently offer any pre-cut film kits. All window tint film is packed in universal sets. With the fitting instructions on our homepage, the cuttng and fitting of the film is normally not much of a problem.
Do you offer a fitting service?
Sorry, currently we offer do-it-yourself sets only.
My windows are curved / arched / vaulted. How do I fit the film?
You may select either of these two ways to tint arched windows:- Alternative 1 - Segmenting: You tint the window in several segments and cut out any overlaying material of film with one or more cuts. This is probably the easiest way.
- Alternative 2 - Heating: Firstly, lay the film on the outside of the window and cut it roughly to the size of the window (leave spare film enough on the sides). Be sure to have the film in the same orientation as it will later be adjusted to the window from inside - with the adhesive side pointing outside!).
After cutting the film, lay it on the outside of the window again and heat it up carefully with a hair blower while you sweep over it with your hand to adjust/form it to the curves of the window.
If it fits well to the window, remove the protective layer of the film while spraying it with water and fit it to the sprayed-in window from the inside. Carefully wipe out the water and any bubbles under the film and then cut film at the edges to fit exactly to the window.
We recommend you order a little more film for arched windows, so that you can check out whch technique is easier for you. For thick films (metallized film, silver film), we recommend Alternative 1.
How do I tint the side windows?
- With closed windows: Normally small sections at the top and on the sides will remain uncovered, as a small part of the window is covered by the rubber when cutting the film.
- If you work very carefully, you might want to open the window a little while cutting the film and cut at the very edge. Unfortunately, the film may be pushed back if closing the window before the film is completely dry.
- An alternative is to dismantle the window, tint it outside the car and then Alternativ wäre ein Ausbau der Scheibe, eine Verfolung außerhalb und ein Wiedereinbau nach vollständiger Abtrocknung (je nach Fahrzeug evtl. natürlich aufwändig!)
How do I tint the heatable rear window?
The film is fitted from the inside (covering the heating wires). When cutting the film, be sure not to damage any wires. We recommend to cut the film before fitting it to the window.
How is the view from inside out?
All our films allow you to view through them from inside. Of course, the view is better through our lighter films (e.g. silver, black) than the darker films (e.g. jet black / deep black). For darker films, the view from inside may be compared to looking through dark sunglasses).
How can I remove film later?
Window tint film: First you pull off the film in one piece (you may want to heat it up a little with your hair blower). Normally, little rests of the adhesive glue will remain on the window, which you should soak with soap sud (with normal dishwashing soap) and then remove with a glass grater or stainless steel wool (which is usually used for cleaning cooking pots). Be sure not to damage any heating wires on the rear window!
Even easier: Apply our re-usable static cling films: These may be easily removed and re-mounted later.
Paint protection films: Heat the film with a hair dryer while slowly and carefully removing the film from the painted parts of your car. Improper handling may cause damages. If rests of the adhesive glue remain on the paint, carefully remove them with a little spirit.
